Itinerary

Welcome to Iceland
Sun Voyager Sculpture on the coastline of Reykjavik

Your plane will touch ground at Keflavík International Airport, located in the middle of a lava field on the Reykjanes Peninsula. After collecting your bags, you will board a bus located just outside the arrivals hall, and head to Reykjavík city.

If your flight arrives early in the day, you can add a trip to the luxurious Blue Lagoon during the booking process. The spa is located midway between the airport and the city and serves as a great introduction to Iceland. You’ll bathe in warm, geothermal water, surrounded by dark lava fields and white pillars of steam. You’ll receive a complimentary silica mud mask and a drink of your choice.

Once in Reykjavík, check into your accommodation and unwind. You’ll be returning to this hotel after your trip to the Golden Circle tomorrow, so you can unpack and get settled in. You will then have the rest of the day to explore the city. Nearby, you’ll find shops, restaurants, museums, and bars.

The Golden Circle Sightseeing Route
Erupting Strokkur geyser at sunset

You’ll depart Reykjavík in the morning and head to the Golden Circle, where you’ll spend the day exploring this fascinating region.

You´ll start with Þingvellir National Park, where the ground is being torn apart by the forces of the Earth. The park sits on the boundary of two tectonic plates that are constantly drifting apart. Here, you´ll be neither in Europe nor North America but in between.

You´ll walk between the continents as you pass through Almannagjá Gorge at the Park. However, you can also swim between the tectonic plates on a snorkelling tour at Silfra Fissure. The water at the fissure is crystal clear, providing you with a fantastic view. And you´ll get to bring home pictures of this day taken by your professional snorkelling guide.

From there, you´ll travel to the Geysir Geothermal Area, where you´ll see the geyser Strokkur erupt in a large column of boiling water. Dotted around the region are also bubbling mud pools and smoking steam vents, providing the landscape with an otherworldly feel.

The last stop before you head to your accommodation in the area is Gullfoss Waterfall. This spectacular feature can be seen from two viewpoints, allowing visitors to grab gorgeous photos of this stunning waterfall.

Glacier Hike in South Iceland
Glacier hiking in Skaftafell national park is a must do when visiting the area

Now it is time to make your way down South, where you’ll see free-roaming sheep and Icelandic horses grazing as you are driven through the rolling farmlands.

You’ll stop at two impressive waterfalls. The former, Seljalandsfoss, falls over a shallow cave in which you can walk to get a unique view from behind the cascade.

The second one, Skógafoss, is equally as beautiful but more powerful. The water falls onto a flat plateau, allowing you to walk right up to the waterfall. However, doing so will get you wet, so make sure you wear your raincoat today.

You will then embark on a glacier hike. The view on top of the surrounding countryside and tall mountains paired with the stillness of the wilderness of the ice cap is simply breathtaking. Accompanied by a trained glacier guide, you´ll hike up a massive ice cap on this one of a kind adventure.

You’ll then head to your accommodation in the area where you will spend the night.

Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon
Diamond beach with glacier ice blocks on black sand close to Jökulsárlon in Iceland.

You will start the day by visiting Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoons and watch as enormous icebergs float gently on a serene lake before they make their way to the ocean. In between the massive bergs swim curious and adorable seals, so make sure to keep your eyes peeled and your camera ready.

You can opt to get a closer look at the bergs — and the seals which swim around them — with a boat tour. Amphibian boats sail slowly on the lagoon, making this the perfect excursion for families and photographers looking to get a great shot of the icebergs.

Then it is time to head back to Reykjavík city. En route is the beautiful Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach. Here, you’ll see grey cliffs made of geometric basalt columns to your East, the natural rock arch, Dyrhólaey, to your West, and out South, nothing but the endless ocean. You might even spot a puffin or two if you are lucky.

You’ll arrive in the city before dinner time, giving you enough time to explore downtown Reykjavík while the midnight sun lights up the night.

Departure
Berufjörður fjord in the east of Iceland offers breathtaking views

Now it is time to bid farewell to Iceland. If you have a late flight, you can do some exploring in the city first. Reykjavík is a colourful and vibrant city, and we recommend you follow the sounds and lights to see if you find something to your liking. If you are unsure of what to do, you can always contact your personal travel agent for recommendations.

If you didn’t have time on your arrival day, you can visit the Blue Lagoon on your way to the airport. It is a great way to unwind after your adventures in Iceland, and you are sure to arrive relaxed and rested at Keflavík International Airport.

We hope you had a fantastic time in Iceland and come back soon!

For multi-day tours and packages, all requests for changes must be made minimum 7 days in advance. Please note that we might not be able to fulfil your changed requirements due to lack of availability, though we will always do our best, and do offer alternative options.

Depending on how far in advance a tour package has been booked and when changes to a booking are requested, an administrative fee of 5000 ISK may be charged each day/night of the itinerary that is modified. Additional supplier costs may still apply depending on the changes requested.

For bookings made within 60 days of arrival, changes can be made without incurring the administrative fee until services have been confirmed and the travel documents have been issued. However, for bookings made 30 days or less before arrival, the administrative fee and any applicable supplier fees may be charged due to the short processing time.

  • Parties travelling together:

Should two parties wish to book separately but travel together, they should inform travel agents of this prior to booking. If a co-travel request is sent after the booking process has been finished, the change to a package is counted as a tailoring and is subject to a 5000 isk service fee.

  • Significant changes to packages:

If a package is significantly changed from the original package setup/route as offered on the site, the product will be considered to be a tailored tour and might be subject to a 15% service fee of the total price of the package. This does not apply to added nights at the end or at the beginning of a package as this does not change the original package setup/route.

For budget-level, single rooms will be allocated to bookings for one person.  Shared twin/double or triple room(s) will be arranged for two or more people. Groups with an odd number of participants will be allotted a single room in quality-level. Children and teenagers will be arranged in the same room as their parents.
