Your journey begins with a pickup from Reykjavík before heading to the Blue Mountains, where you’ll meet your guide and set off on a 40-50 minute hike across a stunning, otherworldly lava field.
As you approach the Þríhnúkagígur Volcano, you’re sure to feel the anticipation building. You’ll be equipped with all the necessary safety gear before descending into the magma chamber via a special elevator that takes you inside the volcano. The descent takes around 6 minutes each way, and the views are simply breathtaking.
Once you reach the bottom, you’ll step out into a vast underground chamber that’s the size of three basketball courts put together! The space is so large that the Statue of Liberty could stand comfortably within it. As you explore the unique volcanic landscape, you’ll see fascinating rock formations and stunning colours created by the cooling of molten lava over time. You’ll have about 30 minutes to explore the depths of the earth and capture the perfect Instagram-worthy shots.
After your exploration, you’ll ascend back to the surface and be rewarded with a steaming bowl of Icelandic meat soup or vegetable soup and a hot beverage. Take a moment to enjoy the stunning surroundings and reflect on your once-in-a-lifetime experience.
