Day 1 – Welcome to Iceland!

Your adventure begins the moment you land at Keflavík International Airport on the rugged Reykjanes Peninsula. After collecting your bags, head to Iceland’s lively capital city, Reykjavík, where you’ll settle in for the next two nights. If you’re feeling energized, take some time to explore the city — maybe visit a cozy café, wander the colorful streets, or check out some quirky shops. In the evening, you’ll gather with your Chief Experience Officers (CEOs) and fellow travelers for a warm welcome and a friendly introduction. Your CEOs will go over the exciting details of the tour and answer any questions, making sure you’re all set for the fun days ahead.

Day 2 – Whales, Wonders, and Icelandic Treats

Day 2 kicks off with a visit to the Perlan Museum, where Iceland’s incredible geological forces come to life through interactive exhibits. You’ll get up close with the power of volcanic eruptions, feel the thrill of explosive geysers, and learn all about the natural wonders that make Iceland so unique. After a morning of discovery, it’s time for a classic Icelandic treat — a delicious hot dog for lunch, just like the local people love. With full bellies, you’ll head to Reykjavík Harbour for an exciting whale-watching tour, where you might spot these mighty creatures breaching the waters. The rest of the day is yours to explore the city at your own pace—perhaps visit the iconic Hallgrímskirkja Church or stop by City Hall to see the impressive 3D map of Iceland.

Day 3 – Hot Springs, Lava Tunnels, & Icelandic Horses

Today, you’ll say goodbye to the city and head out to the charming town of Hveragerði, known for its geothermal activity. Your adventure begins with a hike through the beautiful Reykjadalur Valley, where you can dip your feet in a warm geothermal river — a perfect way to relax surrounded by nature. Afterward, you’ll explore a fascinating lava tunnel, created by enormous lava flows during a volcanic eruption thousands of years ago. As you walk through this natural wonder, you’ll feel the ancient forces that shaped Iceland. Next, it’s time for a visit to a traditional Icelandic horse farm, where you’ll get to meet the adorable and friendly Icelandic horses. These gentle creatures are sure to win your heart! After a day filled with excitement, you’ll settle into your cozy accommodations in the area for the next two nights.

Day 4 – Golden Circle Wonders and a Taste of Iceland

Today is all about exploring the iconic Golden Circle, where you’ll visit three of Iceland’s most famous sites. First, you’ll marvel at the powerful Gullfoss waterfall, where roaring waters cascade into a deep canyon. Next, you’ll witness the Strokkur Geyser erupting in a spectacular display of geothermal energy at the Geysir Geothermal Area. Finally, you’ll stand in awe at Þingvellir National Park, where you can see the rift between two tectonic plates and walk through a landscape steeped in history. After soaking in these natural wonders, you’ll head to a geothermal bakery to witness the unique process of baking bread in hot black sand. There’s nothing quite like tasting a slice of warm, freshly baked rye bread straight from the earth! You’ll even get the recipe to take home. If you’re in the mood for some extra relaxation, you can opt for a visit to Laugavatn Fontana Geothermal Spa to unwind in soothing hot springs before returning to your accommodations.

Day 5 – From Vikings to Waterfalls & Black Sands

Today, you’ll step back in time at the Skógar Museum, exploring Iceland’s history from the Viking era to the Industrial Revolution. Wander through a traditional turf house and a 20th-century schoolhouse, learning about the country’s architectural heritage and folk crafts. Then, take a short walk to the stunning Skógafoss waterfall before enjoying lunch at the nearby bistro. In the afternoon, visit the dramatic Reynisfjara Black-Sand Beach, with its striking basalt columns and powerful waves. By evening, you’ll arrive at your cozy accommodation near Vík Village, ready for more adventures tomorrow.

Day 6 – Volcanoes & Puffins on the Westman Islands

Today, you’ll embark on a ferry ride to the fascinating Westman Islands, a place rich with volcanic history. As you explore the island and its charming town, you’ll learn about the dramatic 1973 eruption that reshaped the landscape, even burying houses in lava. A hike up the slopes of Eldfell Volcano offers stunning views, and — if you dig a little — you’ll feel the ground is still warm, a reminder of the island’s fiery past. Afterward, you’ll search for puffins and other seabirds that call this island home before heading back to the mainland for a restful night at your accommodations.

Day 7 – Waterfalls, Blue Lagoon, & Farewell

As you start your journey back to Reykjavík today, you’ll make some memorable stops along the way. First, visit the enchanting Seljalandsfoss Waterfall, where you can walk behind the cascading waters for a unique view. Next, enjoy a relaxing dip in the famous Blue Lagoon, where the warm, mineral-rich waters offer a perfect way to unwind. In the evening, gather with your fellow travelers and SEOs for a heartfelt farewell dinner, celebrating the beautiful experiences and friendships you’ve made during your Icelandic adventure.

Day 8 – Last Hurrahs & Departure

On your final day, if time permits before your flight, take the chance to explore Reykjavík one last time. Stroll through the city, perhaps adding an optional adventure to cap off your Icelandic experience. When it’s time to say goodbye, you’ll make your way back to Keflavík Airport, with plenty of time to catch your flight. As you head home, take with you the memories of an incredible journey through Iceland’s stunning landscapes and vibrant culture.

Good to know

  • The tour is listed as “average,” as it requires some light hiking.
  • Family Journeys are designed for groups traveling with children between 7 and 17. To book, your group must include a child, and an adult must accompany anyone under 18.
  • Note that the itinerary may have to be rearranged to fit your arrival date and time better.
  • The itinerary depends on road and weather conditions, so it may be altered if conditions are not favorable. This includes optional activities as well. If extreme weather affects your travel plans, you will be notified, and we will do our best to assist you with rearranging or booking other activities when applicable.
  • The weather in Iceland is very unpredictable, even in the summertime. Be prepared and bring both warm and waterproof clothing.
  • Please note that this is a busy tour with some long driving days.
  • Please be aware that properties you’ll stay in might not have elevators, so you will need to climb the stairs with your luggage.
  • The Glacier Hiking duration is around 3-4 hours and is marked as easy. Depending on weather conditions, the time spent on the glacier is about 1.5 hours.
