Itinerary

Day 1 – Welcome to Iceland

After landing at Keflavík Airport and collecting your bags, your Icelandic adventure begins. You’ll pick up your rental car and set off on a scenic drive through the rugged Reykjanes Peninsula, where lava fields stretch to the horizon, and the crisp Atlantic air sets the tone for the journey ahead. Soon, you’ll arrive in Reykjavík, Iceland’s vibrant capital, where colorful houses, cozy cafés, and artistic street life create a warm welcome. Spend your first evening exploring the charming city center, indulging in local cuisine, or simply relaxing before the days of adventure ahead.

Day 2 – The Iconic Golden Circle

After a hearty breakfast, you’ll set off to explore the iconic Golden Circle, one of Iceland’s most famous routes. Marvel at Þingvellir National Park, where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates pull the earth apart, creating cracks in the moss-covered lava fields. Watch in awe as Strokkur geyser erupts at the Geysir Geothermal Area, sending boiling water high into the sky. Then, feel the power of Gullfoss Waterfall as it thunders into a dramatic canyon. With memories of these stunning sights, you’ll continue your journey to the scenic south coast, where a cozy night in comfortable accommodations awaits.

  • Snorkeling in Silfra: Swim between continents in crystal-clear water. Includes a tour with a certified PADI divemaster, all necessary snorkeling gear, Silfra admission fee, and hot chocolate to warm up afterward.
  • Langjökull Glacier Snowmobiling: Race across a glacier on a snowmobile. No prior experience is needed; you only have to bring warm clothes and good shoes. Use of overalls, helmets, and balaclavas are included.
  • Horseback Riding: Get to know the Icelandic horse on a riding tour through the countryside. Icelandic horses are small, friendly, and very intelligent creatures, making this excursion perfect for both new and experienced riders. Riding helmets, boots, and rainwear are provided.

Day 3 – Super Jeep Tour of Þórsmörk Valley

Today, you’ll swap the open road for rugged trails as you meet your expert guide and climb aboard a super-jeep for an unforgettable adventure into Þórsmörk Valley. Known as the “Valley of Thor,” this hidden gem is surrounded by towering glaciers, dramatic mountains, and braided rivers. Your guide will navigate through rough terrain and glacial streams, taking you deep into this untouched wilderness. Along the way, you’ll have the chance to stretch your legs and hike through lush valleys and volcanic landscapes, soaking in the breathtaking views. After a day of exploration and fresh mountain air, you’ll return to your cozy accommodations on the south coast for another peaceful night.

Day 4 – South Coast 

Today, you’ll journey along Iceland’s scenic south coast, stopping at its most iconic landmarks. You’ll visit Seljalandsfoss Waterfall—where you can walk behind the cascading water—and the mighty Skógafoss, known for its thundering power. Then, stroll along the dramatic Reynisfjara black sand beach with its towering basalt columns and crashing waves. By evening, you’ll arrive at Vatnajökull National Park, where you’ll spend the night.

  • Sólheimajökull Glacier Hiking: This glacier hike is fun and easy, requiring no prior experience. The tour provides an English-speaking glacier guide and supplies necessary safety gear such as a helmet, crampons, and an ice axe.
  • Sólheimajökull Glacier Snowmobiling: Race across a glacier on a snowmobile. No prior experience is needed; you only have to bring warm clothes and good shoes. Use of overalls, helmets, and balaclavas are included.

Day 5 – Glacier Lagoons & Diamond Beach

Today, you’ll explore the stunning wonders of Vatnajökull National Park. Marvel at the icebergs drifting across the serene Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon before strolling along the nearby Diamond Beach, where glittering chunks of ice rest on black sand. Then, head to Skaftafell Nature Reserve, a paradise of dramatic landscapes and hiking trails beneath towering glaciers.

In the evening, you’ll return to the south coast and settle in for the night at your accommodations near the charming village of Vík.

  • Amphibian Boat Tour: Sail amongst the enormous icebergs on Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. This tour is especially suited for families with young children as well as photographers looking for a great shot of the ice. Included is a guided tour in English and the use of a lifevest. 
  • Zodiac Boat Tour: Get a front-row seat to see giant icebergs floating on a glacier lagoon. The small Zodiac boat can get close to the icebergs, giving you a unique perspective over the bergs. Includes the use of floatation overalls and lifejackets.
  • Skaftafell Glacier Hiking: This glacier hike is fun and easy, requiring no prior experience. The tour provides an English-speaking glacier guide and supplies necessary safety gear such as a helmet, crampons, and an ice axe.

Day 6 – Back to Reykjavík

Today, you’ll make your way back to Reykjavík while enjoying the freedom to explore at your own pace. Revisit some of the South Coast’s stunning attractions, catch any sights you missed, or head straight to the capital to discover its vibrant streets, cozy cafés, and cultural landmarks. Your personal travel advisor is ready to recommend hidden gems or must-see spots along the way.

In the evening, you’ll settle into your accommodations in Reykjavík for your final night in Iceland.

Day 7 – See You Soon!

On your final day in Iceland, you’ll wake up in Reykjavík. If your flight is in the afternoon or evening, you’ll have time to enjoy the city before you go. Stroll through the colorful streets, visit a cozy café, or pick up some last-minute souvenirs. Your personal travel advisor can suggest the perfect activities to make the most of your remaining time.

When it’s time to depart, you’ll drive to Keflavík Airport, ensuring plenty of time to return your rental car and check in for your flight home. Safe travels, and we hope to see you again!

Budget

Nice and comfortable rooms with shared bathroom facilities and shower located in farmhouses, guesthouses or hostels, in good locations with breakfast included. An example of this in Reykjavík would be Kex Hostel. 

Comfort

Comfortable rooms in three-star hotels or quality guesthouses, centrally located, very close to popular attractions. Private bathroom and breakfast included. An example of this in Reykjavík would be Fosshotel Rauðará. 

Quality

Rooms in four-star hotels or superior rooms in quality three-star hotels at fantastic locations near popular attractions. Private bathroom and breakfast is included. An example of this in Reykjavík would be Icelandair Hotel Marina. 

Car

You’ll have a choice of three options for your rental car. See details for each option in the boxes below. We only work with highly reputable dealerships, ensuring a smooth ride throughout your holiday.

The vehicles for all levels are current models, no older than two years. They all come standard with a medium protection package, including CDW (Collision damage waiver), GP (Gravel Protection), Super Collision Damage Waiver (SCDW), Personal Accident Insurance (PAI), and a Theft Waiver (THW). They also come equipped with free Wi-Fi with 3GB total. You will also get 24-hour roadside emergency services from the car rental agency. In the wintertime, all cars have winter tires.

Compact 2WD

2WD vehicle such as a VW Golf, good for city driving and shorter trips. Fits up to 5 travellers & light luggage. No Highland capabilities. Driver must be at least 20 year old.

Comfort 4x4

4x4 jeep or SUV. Fits up to 5 travellers and 2 large pieces of luggage. Decent for snow and off-asphalt driving. Basic highland capabilities. Driver must be min. 20 years old.

Large 4x4

Large 4x4 like a Toyota Land Cruiser. Comfortable up to 5 travellers with 4 large pieces of luggage. Full highland capabilities. Driver must be min. 21 years old.

  • Note that the itinerary may have to be rearranged to fit your arrival date and time better.
  • The itinerary depends on road and weather conditions, so it may be altered if conditions are not favorable. This includes optional activities. If extreme weather affects your travel plans, you will be notified, and we will do our best to assist you with rearranging or booking other activities when applicable.
  • Some optional activities may require a valid driver’s license, or you may need to send additional information to your travel agent.
  • For snorkeling, you will need to know how to swim and fill out an online medical document.
  • The weather in Iceland is very unpredictable, even in the summertime. Make sure to be prepared and bring both warm and waterproof clothing.
