Itinerary

Day 1 – Welcome to the Faroe Islands

You’ll land at Vágar Airport. After you’ve picked up your luggage, find your rental car and get ready to explore the beautiful Faroe Islands. On your way to Tórshavn, where you’ll spend the night, stop by the picturesque villages of Bøur and Gásadalur, which offer amazing views of fjords, waterfalls, and the island Mykines.

  • Drangarnir Boat Tour from Vágar Island: Join this 1.5-hour boat tour from Vágar Island to see the mighty Drangarnir Sea Stacks up close. En route, you’ll also see the famous Múlafossur Waterfall and Mt. Tindhólmur. Included is the use of life jackets. No minimum age.
  • Puffin Watching Boat Tour from Vágar Island: Join this boat tour around Vágar Island to see puffins and other adorable bird species. You’ll also see the great sights of Vágar, including Drangarnir Sea Stacks and Múlafossur Waterfall. Included is the use of life jackets. No minimum age.
  • Heimablídni: Heimablídni, meaning “home hospitality” in Faroese, invites you into local homes across the Faroe Islands for an intimate and authentic dining experience. This experience may also be available on other days, depending on host availability.

Day 2 – Guided Viking Hike & Tórshavn

Today, a local guide will meet you at your hotel to take you on a hike to Mannafelsdalur Valley, the site of a bloody Viking battle. Here, you’ll learn about the valley’s brutal history, enjoy fantastic views of the surrounding island and dramatic cliffs, and enjoy some Faroese delicacies and refreshments. Afterward, you’ll return to Tórshavn, where you’re free to explore this charming capital city or take one of the optional tours available on this day.

  • Horseback Riding in Tórshavn: Explore the beautiful nature around Tórshavn on the back of a horse. The small horses used on the tour are friendly and intelligent, making a riding tour the perfect activity for the whole family. All necessary riding gear is provided. Minimum age 7. 
  • Puffin Watching Boat Tour from Tórshavn: Join this 2-hour boat tour around Nólsoy Island to see puffins, various bird species, and picturesque lighthouses. Coffee/tea and the use of a flotation suit are included. The minimum age is 6.
  • Fishing Tour from Tórshavn: Embark on a fishing adventure in the peaceful waters around Nólsoy Island and try to reel in cod, haddock, or elusive halibut. Nólsoy is also great for birdwatching with an abundance of storm petrels, guillemots, gannets, and, in the summer, puffins. Included is the use of all fishing gear. Minimum age is 6.

Day 3 – Bird Cliff Boat Tour & Gjóvg Village

Head out of the city today to the island Eysturoy. Your destination is the small but charming village of Gjóvg, where you will spend the night. En route, you will have loads of adventures, such as taking a 2-hour boat trip to Vestmanna Bird Cliffs, exploring Viking settlements, and visiting a black sand lagoon.

Day 4: The Northern Isles

You’ll wake up in the beautiful village of Gjóvg on Eysturoy Island. Today, you can choose to explore this island further, perhaps by hiking to the Faroes’ highest mountain. Alternatively, you can take your car out and explore the Northern Isles, where you’ll find the world’s highest promontory, charming towns, and stunning churches and lighthouses. You’ll then spend another night in Gjóvg.

Day 5 – Departure

It is now time to bid farewell to the beautiful Faroe Islands. When the time comes, head to the airport on Vágar Island. Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to return the rental car and check in. If you have time, you can stop at some of the beautiful attractions that are en route from Eysturoy, such as Funningur village, Risin & Kellingin sea stacks, and Kollafjørður Church.

Car

You’ll have three rental car options. Details for each option are in the boxes below. We only work with highly reputable dealerships, ensuring a smooth ride throughout your holiday.

The vehicles for all levels are current models, no older than two years. They all come standard with a medium protection package, including CDW (Collision damage waiver), GP (Gravel Protection), Super Collision Damage Waiver (SCDW), Personal Accident Insurance (PAI), and a Theft Waiver (THW). They also come equipped with free Wi-Fi with 3GB total. You will also get 24-hour roadside emergency services from the car rental agency. In the wintertime, all cars have winter tires.

Compact 2WD

2WD vehicles, such as a VW Golf, good for city driving and shorter trips. Fits up to 5 travellers & light luggage. Driver must be at least 20 years old.

Comfort 4x4

4x4 jeep or SUV. Fits up to 5 travelers and 2 large pieces of luggage. Decent for snow and off-asphalt driving. Driver must be min. 20 years old.

Large 4x4

A large 4x4 like a Toyota Land Cruiser, it is comfortable for up to 5 travelers with 4 large pieces of luggage. The driver must be at least 21 years old.
