Overview

Go off the beaten track and experience Iceland’s otherworldly nature on a tour of the Landmannalaugar region in the Highlands.  You’ll go into the wild Icelandic nature, where you’ll see volcanoes, hike up colorful mountains, and take a dip in a natural hot spring.

This tour starts in the morning when a professional, local guide picks you up in a comfortable vehicle equipped to handle the Highland’s rough terrain.

You’ll begin by leaving the city and heading into the South Iceland countryside. At one point, the driver will head inland, towards the wilderness area of the Highlands. Your first stop will be at Hjálparfoss, a stunning double waterfall in the Þjórsárdalur Valley. Set against a backdrop of basalt formations, the two streams of water converge into a serene pool, creating a beautiful, peaceful scene. The name means “Help Falls,” referring to its historical significance as a place where travelers and their horses would rest after crossing the challenging Sprengisandur Highlands.

From there, you’ll travel to the Landmannalaugar, a region known for its beautiful mountains and hot springs. You’ll spend about two hours hiking on the colorful slopes of Brennisteinsalda, seeing how the peaks seem to change colors as you journey across them. After a good hike, you’ll take a dip in a natural, geothermal hot spring to relax any aching muscles you might have.

Before returning to Reykjavík, you’ll make one last stop at Sigöldugljúfur Canyon, often called the “Valley of Tears.” This breathtaking canyon is known for its cascading waterfalls that stream down from every corner, creating a magical, almost otherworldly atmosphere.
