Iceland’s unique geology is responsible for this country’s most beautiful attractions. The national park of Þingvellir is no exception. The park sits on the borders of two tectonic plates on which two continents sit; Europe and North America.

The park’s extraordinary location means that there are cracks and fissures dotted around, a result from the plates’ movement. One of these fissures is filled with crystalline meltwater from a nearby glacier, Langjökull.

On this tour, you’ll get to explore this fissure and discover the vibrant colours found within. Clad in a drysuit to keep you warm, you’ll swim or drift with the current, enjoying the fantastic Icelandic nature at its finest.

You will meet your certified guide at a designated meeting point at Þingvellir. After short introductions and instructions, your guide will help you put on your drysuit and take you to the water. Once inside, you will be greeted by Silfra´s beautiful landscapes of underwater canyons and colourful flora.

The water in Silfra fissures originates in Iceland’s second-largest glacier, Langjökull. On its way towards Silfra, the glacial water travels through a nearby lava field which filters and cleans it, making it crystal clear by the time it reaches the fissure. Not only does this process create such pure water that it is good enough to drink, but it also provides you with unparalleled visibility on your snorkelling tour.

As you swim between the continents of Europe and North America, your guide will take some fantastic photos of you in the water. After your trip, you can warm up with a complimentary hot chocolate and cookies, provided by your friendly guide. Then, a few days later, you will receive an email with all of the great underwater photos from your trip.

Minimum age for this tour is 12 years. Participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian booked on the same tour.
Maximum age for this tour is 69. Those over the age of 60 will need a medical waiver, as do people over 45 who are pipe smokers or have partaken in heavy alcohol intake.
Participants must be able to swim and be comfortable in water.
Participants must be physically fit and not be pregnant.
Participants must be ready to wear a tight and constricting drysuit.
Participants must be a minimum of 150 cm and no more that 200 cm in height, and weigh between 45 and 120 kilos.
Participants MUST have read, signed, and followed directions on the Snorkeling Silfra Medical Statement Form – click here. We recommend you bring the Form already printed out and signed, but you cal also can sign the Form at the meeting location.
