Discover the volcanic wonders that make Iceland so unique. The country is one of the youngest in the world, and it is still being formed by the powers of Earth. On this fantastic day tour, you’ll explore the tectonic plates that are ripping the country in half and the geothermal areas, including hot springs, that originate deep in the Earth’s interior. You’ll also get to walk the path molten lava created thousands of years ago.

The tour starts in Reykjavík in the morning. Your friendly guide will pick you up and whisk you out of the city to your first destination: the presidential residence at Bessastaðir. While your guide tells you the centuries-old history of this place, make sure you keep an eye out for the president himself, you never know when he might pop out.

From there, you’ll travel to the Bridge between Continents. It is here where the North American and the Eurasian tectonic plates meet. These plates are slowly moving apart, tearing Iceland up in the process and creating the strange but beautiful volcanic landscapes so iconic for this island.

You’ll continue your journey around the Reykjanes Peninsula, stopping at majestic cliffs, picturesque lighthouses, and boiling hot springs before it is time for lunch. Then, you’ll make your way to the town of Grindavík, where you can enjoy your packed lunch or purchase a nice meal at a local restaurant.

You will then travel to the geothermal area of Seltún by Krísuvík Bay. Here, you’ll see steam vents and bubbling mud pools, all heated by shallow bodies of magma deep in the Earth’s crust. From there, you’ll travel to one of the biggest lava tubes in Iceland, Raufarhólshellir Cave.

5,200 years ago, molten lava carved its way underground, leaving behind a cave filled with spectacular colours and strange formations. Before you head back to Reykjavík, you will enter that cave, walking the scorched earth the red-hot magma created all those years ago.
