Golden Circle Super Jeep Tour with Snowmobiling on a Glacier

On the morning of your tour, a large and comfortable super jeep will pick you up in Reykjavík. Super jees are massive 4×4 vehicles which have been modified to handle Iceland’s rough terrain. You will drive away from the busy city and into the idyllic countryside.

Your first stop is at Þingvellir National Park, where Viking settlers established Iceland’s parliament in 930 AD. The park is also known for its unique geology; it is located between the Eurasian and N-American tectonic plates. As the plates move, they tear apart the landscape, creating cracks and fissures which give the park its dramatic look.

From there you’ll head to Geysir Geothermal Area where you’ll see bubbling mud pools, hissing steam vents and erupting geysers. The biggest one of these geysers is the park’s namesake, Geysir, but it hasn’t gone off in years. However, the most active one is Strokkur which erupts in a 15-20 metre water column every 5-10 minutes. 

Last but not least on the Golden Circle trail is Gullfoss, a stunning waterfall which falls down 32-metre cliffs into a rocky canyon. Gullfoss is fed by the glacier Langjökull on which you will be snowmobiling today. 

After traversing the Highland region to reach the glacier, you’ll reach the base camp where you’ll be given all safety gear and taught how to ride the snowmobile. Then there is nothing left but to jet across the white plains of Langjökull Glacier while the adrenaline surges in your veins. After a fun-filled trip on the glacier, you’ll return to the super jeep which will take you back to Reykjavík.
