About our Self-Drive tours
Take the wheel with a Self-Drive tour in Iceland and explore this country’s many waterfalls, black sand beaches, and glacier lagoons at your own pace. We will take care of all arrangements so all you need to worry about is what music you’d like to listen to on your road trip around the island.
On arrival, your rental vehicle will be waiting for you at Keflavík International Airport. Your adventure begins the moment you pick up your keys, and soon, you will be driving out into the volcanic landscape of Reykjanes Peninsula.
Would you like to explore these lava fields before reaching the city? How about unwinding at the world famous Blue Lagoon geothermal spa? Perhaps you prefer to head straight to Reykjavík where you´ll get a decent night’s rest in your hotel room. It’s all up to you.
Shortly after you book the tour, you’ll receive a personal itinerary via email with suggestions and advice on the best spots to visit here in Iceland. These itineraries are created by local experts, so you can be sure your trip is in safe hands. It is you, however, that will make the final decision on where to go, what to see, and how long to spend at each location.
Aside from a personal itinerary, your Self-Drive Tour includes accommodation, complete with breakfast and private bathroom facilities. Also included is a rental car, CDW insurance, Gravel Protection, and Super Collision Damage Waiver. All vehicles come equipped with GPS, free, unlimited Wi-Fi, and 24-hour roadside emergency service.
Those looking for a short trip to Iceland can do no better than our 5-Day Self-Drive Tours or even our 3-Day Self-Drive packages. If, on the other hand, you are looking to immerse yourself fully in the Icelandic nature, then we recommend our 10-Day Self-Drive Tours as these provide you with enough time to witness all the corners of our country.
Iceland Self Drive Summer Tours
On a Guided Tour Package, your tour guide is in control, and once you’ve seen all the major stops, you’ll head back to your hotel.
On a Self-Drive Tour, however, you can take as much time you need appreciating the Icelandic attractions. This is particularly great in the summer as you will have the midnight sun shining brightly throughout the night, meaning you can explore late into the early hours of the morning if you wish.
Iceland Self Drive Winter Tours
Winter Self-Drive Tours are a popular option for photographers, both professional and amateur. When paired with the low sunlight, Iceland´s frost, snow, icicles and icebergs provide the most beautiful subjects for photographs.
Winter in Iceland also means that there are fewer people at the most popular attractions, and on a Self-Drive Tour, it is even easier to avoid the crowds.
Cars on Winter Self-Drive Tours come equipped with winter tyres but if you are not comfortable driving on snowy roads, we recommend you check out a Small-Group Guided Tour.
Northern Lights Self Drive Tours
One of the biggest advantages of Winter Self-Drive Tours is that you have the freedom to go hunting for the northern lights whenever you want.
Winter is the only time you can see the northern lights in Iceland. They are always there in the sky; it is just a matter of viewing them in optical conditions.
Self-Drive Tours provide you with the tools to do just that. You can drive into the countryside to a spot with wide open skies and see for yourself the dancing green lights above. While this is a fantastic experience however it is done, it is made all the better when viewed in the privacy of loved ones.
Golden Circle Self Drive Tours
The Golden Circle is Iceland’s most popular sightseeing route. It comprises three main sights: Þingvellir National Park, Geysir Geothermal Area, and Gullfoss Waterfall.
Those on a Self-Drive Tour can not only decide how long to spend at each of these locations, but they can extend their trip to include lesser-known spots such as Kerið Crater Lake, Faxi Waterfall, and the Secret Lagoon.
